Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating a Threadline account or using the Threadline embed widget, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy (threadline.io/privacy). If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Beta Service
Threadline is currently in beta. Features, pricing, and terms may change before general availability. During beta, billing is paused and all plans are free. We may introduce paid plans at general availability with at least 30 days' notice. Beta users who received a launch promotion will retain their promotional pricing as described at the time of sign-up.
3. Description of Service
Threadline provides a hosted comment platform for websites ("Threadline Comments"). Threadline also maintains the TIP (Threadline Identity Protocol), which is separately licensed under Apache 2.0 and is not subject to these terms. These terms apply only to the managed Threadline Comments service.
4. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are using the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.
5. Content You Post
You own the content you post as comments. By posting, you grant Threadline a limited, non-exclusive license to store, display, and distribute your comments on the specific site where you posted them. This license ends when you delete the comment or your account. You represent that you have the right to post any content you submit and that it does not infringe on the rights of others.
6. Copyright and DMCA
If you believe content on Threadline infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@threadline.io including: identification of the copyrighted work, the infringing material, your contact information, and a statement of good faith. We will process valid DMCA takedown requests in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512. Repeat infringers will have their accounts terminated.
7. Publisher Responsibilities
If you embed Threadline on your website, you are responsible for: obtaining any necessary consents from your visitors, complying with applicable privacy laws (including GDPR), and moderating content on your site. Threadline provides tools to assist with moderation but does not pre-moderate content on your behalf unless you configure pre-approval mode.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to: (a) post content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, or threatening; (b) spam comment threads or post automated content without authorization; (c) attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or compromise the security of the service; (d) use the service in a way that degrades performance for other users; (e) resell access to the service without written permission; (f) circumvent usage limits or plan restrictions.
9. Payments and Billing
Pricing is listed at threadline.io/pricing. Paid plans are prepaid monthly months via PayPal (no auto-renew). Prices may change with 30 days' written notice. We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee for new paid months — request a refund from Billing or Contact. Closing a PayPal subscription does not refund. Canceling from Threadline switches the account to Free immediately and cannot be undone; unused time is not refunded. No partial-month refunds for mid-cycle changes.
10. Service Availability
We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. During beta, no uptime SLA is provided. Following general availability, paid plans will include a documented uptime commitment and SLA terms, which will be published on our status page before they take effect. Free plans do not include an uptime commitment. We will provide advance notice of scheduled maintenance when possible.
11. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it in your account settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice when feasible. Upon termination: you can export all your data (threadline.io/docs/privacy/export), your comments will be anonymized (display name removed, content preserved for conversation context) within 30 days, and your account data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Any remaining prepaid balance will not be refunded for terminations due to terms violations.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Threadline and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from: (a) content you post, (b) your use of the service in violation of these terms or applicable law, or (c) your violation of the rights of a third party.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) Threadline is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind; (b) Threadline is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; (c) Threadline's total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to Threadline in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater; (d) this limitation applies regardless of the legal theory on which the claim is based.
14. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy at threadline.io/privacy. By using the service, you consent to the data practices described there. For EU users, we offer additional rights as described in our GDPR compliance guide at threadline.io/docs/privacy/gdpr.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email to your account address at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will maintain an archive of previous versions on request.
16. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the Threadline operator resides, without regard to conflict of law principles. Threadline is operated as a sole proprietorship. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts of that jurisdiction. For users in the European Economic Area, you retain rights under applicable EU consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by contract.
